Fashanu is a campaigner rooting for LGBTQ community in Football, and her parents seem to have inspired her to fight for such rights.

However, Justin took his own life after a 17-year-old claimed that the athlete assaulted him after a night of drinking in March 1998. Following the investigations and arrest warrant, he fled to England from the United States and hung himself in a deserted lock-up garage in Fairchild Place, Shoreditch, London.

Fashanu denied the charges and revealed he evanesced because he felt his homosexuality would not get a fair trial and didn’t want to be an embarrassment to friends and family. Thus, Amal promised her uncle to support gay players until there was representation in football’s top tier.

The story of the late footballer must have encouraged her to fight for LGBTQ rights and against racism in sports. The activist doesn’t want to miss out on the players with great potential to become the next Cristiano Ronaldo just because he belongs to the LGBTQ+ community and doesn’t want to come out.
