Puckey always asked any lady he met if she had lipstick and then asked if he could see it when he was a kid.

It appeared miraculous in some ways: the smell, the color, the gloss, and then to be able to smear it on a face. Then Benjamin remembered that someone at the theater had given him a bag of theater makeup, which his parents had to take away from him because he had messed it up.
