His maternal grandfather, David Hagerman, played four seasons of ice hockey at the University of New Hampshire.
Furthermore, his aunt, Jamie Hagerman Phinney, played ice hockey at Harvard University and earned a bronze medal with the United States hockey team at the 2006 Olympic Games in Torino, Italy. She was instrumental in the team's success then.
