Following a police pursuit that resulted in Jayland Walker being shot dead on Monday, an undetermined number of police officers in Ohio have been placed on paid administrative leave while an investigation is conducted.

Around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, Akron Police Department officers attempted to pull over Walker for a traffic infraction, but the motorist resisted, according to a statement shared on Facebook by the department.

Cops reported that during the ensuing chase, bullets were fired from the car at the police.

According to information provided by its media partner, the Akron Beacon Journal, CNN affiliate WEWS reported that Walker died from numerous gunshot wounds to the face, belly, and upper legs.

The Journal reported that it stated that Walker was witnessed flat on his back and was in handcuffs when a medical examiner investigator arrived at the gunshot site, after being granted access to an investigative worksheet at the medical examiner’s office.

The autopsy report was withheld from CNN by the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office, although they did state that Walker’s death was declared a homicide and that it was considered a confidential law enforcement investigatory record.

The images released on Wednesday, however, support what police sources previously told 3News Investigates: Over 90 rounds were fired by eight officers, inflicting over 60 wounds on Walker’s torso.

Jayland Walker Family Heartbroken And Wants Police Accountability

Jayland Walker’s bereaved family gathered on Thursday to plead for peace, understanding, and justice in the most recent officer-involved killing. Walker passed away on Monday after police claimed he escaped a traffic check.

According to an attorney, the family is requesting answers from the many police officers who are believed to have shot Walker numerous times after a 42-second automobile chase from Akron’s North Hill neighborhood to Firestone Park.

When Walker was shot in the arms, legs, abdomen, and face by several officers and then handcuffed on the ground of a parking lot until the medical examiner arrived and declared him dead, police claimed that a gun was fired from his car.

However, they have not yet explained whether he was carrying a weapon at the time. A medical professional said that he discovered a pistol in his car.
