Matt Campbell Met Wife Erica Campbell In Class Six

Matt Campbell wife Erica Campbell is the first lady of Iowa State Athletics. Matt and Erica share four kids.

Matt and Erica first met in school whilst they were in sixth grade. The couple has now gone on to parent four kids who are likely to build their careers in sports as well, just like their father and grandfather.

The Iowa State head coach, Campbell, joined the Cyclones in 2016 and has been named the Big 12 Coach of the year three times. Matt led the Cyclones to one of their best seasons in decades in the pandemic-shortened season and is now signed with them till 2028.

Campbell was filled with pride seeing Brock Purdy’s performance for the 49ers as he once coached him and said to the 49ers scout that they would be proud to draft him. In the coming years, Campbell will be more than happy to repeat those lines for other players and who knows, one day, we might see the Ohio native coaching an NFL team.

Matt Campbell wife Erica Campbell crossed paths with the football coach when she was 11.

Matt and Erica were friends first and lovers later. They met in sixth grade and started dating in their senior year of high school.

The two attended Perry High School, where with Matt on the defensive line, the school won three conference championship trophies. He later joined the University of Pittsburgh before transferring to the University of Mount Union.

Erica graduated from university with a doctorate in audiology, but since 2016 has been highly active in the Iowa community in fundraising programs. In 2018, Erica and other first ladies of Iowa State Athletics, Katie Prohm and Deb Fennelly, organized fundraising campaigns for Reggies’ Sleepout.

Reggies’ Sleepout is an event to raise donations for the homeless youth of central Iowa and across the nation. Matt took advantage of his social media presence to help his partner raise funds for the campaign by tweeting about it.

The pair who first became high school sweethearts had to even be in a long-distance relationship before they tied the knot. Erica would take long drives to Pittsburgh to meet her future husband while he was with the Panthers.

When asked if the first lady of Iowa athletics is a hardcore football fan, her simple response can resonate with many coaches’ wives. She jokingly said she spent more time caring for the kids than paying attention to the game.

Matt Campbell Family

Matt Campbell grew up in a family that cherished the game of football while also valuing academics.

Campbell’s father, Rick Campbell, coached football at Jackson High School, a one-hour drive from Matt’s high school and their arch-rivals. Rick later went on to become the principal of Jackson High.

Elaine earned a degree in chemistry and biology from the University of Mount Union and worked as a chemist at Mercy Medical Center for eight years before joining the Perry Township Board of Trustees as a Township Administrator.
