Kelsey Plum followed her parents into sports. She is an American basketball player for Las Vegas Aces in WNBA.

With an excellent physique and game knowledge, she is one of the most feared players by opponents. Before joining the Aces, she played college basketball for the University of Washington and smashed some remaining records.

With a career-high 57 points on a senior night on February 25, 2017, Plum broke the NCAA Division I women’s basketball all-time scoring record with 3,397 points, hitting 19 of the 28 shots she attempted. On March 20, 2017, Plum scored 1,080 points, shattering the NCAA single-season scoring record.

The San Antonio Stars picked her with the first overall choice in the 2017 WNBA Draft. Later on May 27, she made a professional debut against the Dallas Wings. In a 94-82 loss, she came off the bench to contribute four points and one assist. Since then, she has only increased her game standard and become one of the league’s most talented and skilled players.

Kelsey is from a family whose every member has some ties with sports. She was born on August 24 1994, in Poway, California, to American parents Jim and Katie Plum. Since childhood, she has been exposed to many sports-related activities, which eventually directed her towards her career in sports.

Kelsey’s father, Jim, played All-American football in La Mesa, California. He proceeded to play football and baseball at San Diego State. Her mother, Katie, also participated in volleyball at the Davis University of Carolina. She was the school’s top athlete.

Besides Kelsey, the Plum couple’s other children are also athletes. Their other two daughters both played volleyball professionally, following in their mother’s footsteps. While their only son, Daniel Plum, had played football for UC Davis. He is currently anonymous, and we are unsure of his present situation.

  6. Kelsey has won a gold medal in the U19 World Championship. The head coach of the University of Miami, Katie Meier, selected Plum for the USA Basketball U19 squad. The squad won all nine games with an average winning margin of 43 points per game. Plum represented the United States at the tenth FIBA U19 World Championship, which took place in July 2013 in Klaipeda and Panevezys, Lithuania.
  7. Plum’s selection in WNBA created history. The San Antonio Stars made Plum their first choice in the 2017 WNBA draft. This was the first time in NBA and WNBA history that the top choice came from the same university in the same calendar year.
  8. Kelsey missed the 2020 season due to injury. She had an Achilles tendon injury at the beginning of June 2020. She missed that season due to the damage and the procedure to fix it. Her team finished with a record of 18-4 in their 22-game, compressed season without Plum. They made it to the finals but lost in a three-game sweep to the Seattle Storm.

  10. Kelsey was chosen as the Associated Press All-American First Team member during her senior year. In women’s collegiate basketball, only five players are honored with this. Plum is also one of the five finalists for the Wooden Award, which is given to the finest player in women’s college basketball. During her senior season, Plum averaged 31.7 points while shooting 53 percent from the field while 43 percent from three-point range.
