Pam Ayres was born Pamela Ayres on March 14, 1947, at Stanford in Vale, Berkshire (now Oxfordshire), England. Her present age is 75. Her parents raised her in a family of eight.

Her parents, Stanley and Phyllis Ayres, have six offspring. She is one of their six children, the youngest among her four older brothers and sister.

After serving as a Sergeant in the Grenadier Guards during World War II, her father Stanley was employed as a line worker for over four decades by the Southern Electricity Board. Ayres referred to her youth as “a rural childhood”; she was nurtured in one of several modest panel homes.
