Lydia De Vega passed away on August 10, 2022. She was 57 years old.
The former Olympian was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in 2018. She was open about her diagnosis and was an inspiration for cancer fighters all around the globe.
Her daughter, Stephanie, said that Vega underwent brain surgery in July. She also mentioned that her mother was in critical condition. On August 10, she confirmed that her mother had passed away.
“On behalf of our family, it is with absolute grief that I announce the death of my mother, Lydia De Vega, this evening, August 10, 2022, at the Makati Medical Center. She fought the very good fight and is now at peace.” the daughter wrote on Facebook.
