Growing up in the country’s capital, the 20-year-old wonder kid for Cardiff City Football Club had the privilege of being raised in a well-to-do family by his parents. 

From his grandparents to his parents to him and his brother Joel, who is also a professional football player and plays for the under-18 Cardiff City club, his family has always been passionate about the game of football.

With the 3-0 defeat against tournament favorite and neighboring country England on November 29, Wales journey in the 2022 FIFA World Cup came to an end. 

The young winger Rubin Colwicould did not contribute a goal for his nation on their first World Cup appearance since 1958. Gareth Bale scored the only goal for Wales in the competition against Iran.

Rubin Colwill was born to father Richard Colwill and a Welsh mother. Rubin’s parents are natives of Wales since they were born and raised in the country of the UK.

Rubin’s father, Richard, is a  youth development coach and managed Rubin as a player while he was at Neath Dynamos and Pontardawe Academy. Richard was the manager of the club. Rubin has always had a special skill. However, Richard has handled him wisely.

He has massive support from his family, including his parents, grandparents, and his younger brother Joel towards his career. The elevating raw talent started kicking a football from an early age.

Richard Colwill, his father, is the primary source of his impulse to drive him forward. His dad was the one who introduced football to him when he was barely five years old. “My dad was the real inspiration behind my love of football.”, Rubin said.

His dad and granddad were avid football fans, and they would take him to the playground when he was a child in Wales, where they would play for hours, honing his technique and cultivating his love for the game.

Since Rubin Colwill parents raised him in Cardiff they want him to play for their hometown as well. Thus, Colwill signed a professional contract with Cardiff in 2021.

From the age of eight in Bluebirds academy, marching through Cardiff City, Colwill was named on the World Cup squad list. His mother could not hold her tears after he showed him the message and hugged him. 

Colwill has often stated that he remains modest and recognizes that he is only at the beginning of his career. Cardiff City fans and Wales supporters are optimistic that the young attacking football player will have a prosperous career ahead.

Rubin Colwill never identified himself as Chinese, nor does he have any ties with the Asian country.

However, some people on the internet are under the false impression that the 20-year-old Wales winger has a Chinese origin. Colwill was born Rubin James Colwill on April 27, 2002, in the capital of Wales, Cardiff.

He has Welsh nationality, as both of his parents are natives of Wales. He was reared in Wales, much like his grandparents, therefore, any claims that he is Chinese are absolutely unfounded. Only because of his facial build are people making this claim other than the rising young talent is pure Wales-born.

If he has Chinese origin, he should be eligible to play for the Chinese national team. However, the Cardiff City FC forward does not mention playing for China. He has been striding through the ranks of the Welsh national squad since an early age.

Besides, Colwill also has a younger brother Joel Colwill, a football player. He plays under-18 football for Cardiff City youth academy. And similar to his brother Rubin, who played at the club since the age of eight, Joel is rising through the ranks of the club’s academy. 

Joel, 18, dreams of playing with his brother in the senior team and representing Wales in the international competition. Recently he had some first-team pre-season appearances.

He has been singled out as one of the players most likely to emerge from the academy and join that senior setup next season by many. Rubin is proud of his younger brother and believes he will be a top-class player.

“I have played football with him since he was five or six years old,” Colwill said. “He has definitely got the ability to go all the way.”
