Tessa Virtue was born to parents, Kate and Jim Virtue. They have always been proud of her and encouraged her in all of her endeavors.

Even though her parents were not involved in sports, they have always supported her dreams. They gave her training from the top trainers and ensured that she had access to all the necessary equipment.

Tessa's parents were concerned and by her side when she underwent surgery to relieve the persistent discomfort associated with chronic exertional compartment syndrome.

In the fall of 2008, she underwent a similar procedure, which caused her to miss most of the preparation sessions for the world championships in Tokyo. However, her parents took extra care of her and ensured she had all she needed to recover her health.

When she succeeded in ice figure skating, she continued to live with her mother, which she proudly stated in several of her interviews, adding that she saw no issues with doing so.

Her parents paid for travel, training, coaches, equipment, and tournaments. When Tessa was a child, a family member, usually her mother, accompanied her and made a sizable financial investment in her success.

Her parents were amazed to see her multitasking and wondered how she could do it all despite the long hours of work she put into her athletic career.

Tessa Virtue could realize her dream because of her father, Jim Virtue. Her father is a lawyer by profession who practices in London.

Even though Jim is a lawyer, he never made her study law or excel in any other courses; however, he encouraged her when she expressed a desire to pursue a career in athletics.

The Virtue family acquired a house in Michigan when they decided Tessa needed to switch coaches and train there, but he stayed behind in London to work and earn money to pay for everything.

Jim was the family's primary provider of money. Although Tessa's one costume cost more than $2,000, he ensured he could afford it by working longer hours and avoiding the family.

Tessa Virtue's ambition to keep up with her friends who were proficient skaters on the ice was her primary driving force to learn to skate. When she told her father about it, he was delighted to start teaching her.

Later, when her love of ice dancing became a way of life and she met Scott Moir, the desire to become a champion emerged. The whole family had known Scott since childhood,

Tessa Virtue fell in love with design because of her mother, Kate Virtue. They lived together for most of her career.

Her mother gave up her job at the Law Society of Upper Canada to move to Michigan for Tessa's training when she was 15 years old. Kate is a designer who made dresses for Tessa.

Her mother, Kate, has assisted in creating her daughter's skating outfits ever since she first competed as a tiny, freckled, eight-year-old with bangs and a bun.

Her favorite outfit created by her mother so far was the long-sleeved lace dress with a plunging neckline that she wore when she and Moir skated to Carmen during the 2012–2013 season. 

Kate creates the costumes to aid in character development, tell a tale, and make a statement. She loves being a clothes designer because of the harmony between art and athleticism.

Tessa Virtue grew up in a family of six. She is not a single child and has three siblings, Casey, Kevin, and Jordan Virtue.

Her two brothers are Casey and Kevin Virtue, and her sister Jordan Virtue also serves as her second mother. On her social media accounts, the former athlete has shared many charming images from their early years.

Although her brothers are not frequent social media users, she frequently uses them to express how much she values and loves her family. Jordan is not only her sister but her best friend and the biggest supporter of her career.
