He was one of three victims of a shooting that occurred on a bus carrying Virginia University students. The other two victims are Lavel Davis and D’Sean Perry.
Devin weighed 184 pounds and stood at a height of 6 feet. He had not yet decided on his major in UVA’s College of Arts and Sciences. And now he never will.
The third-year student Chandler was a native of Huntersville, North Carolina. He had not yet played for the Cavaliers when he transferred from the University of Wisconsin and arrived at UVA last winter.

Devin Chandler was a wide receiver for the UVA football team. He began his prep career at Tennessee’s Arlington High School.
He played wide receiver and defensive back sports in Arlington before transferring to William Amos Hough High School in North Carolina for his senior year. He hauled in 128 receptions for 2,391 yards throughout his school career.

In his senior year, he was a fantastic asset to the football squad, pulling in 50 catches for 905 yards and receiving 28 passes for 728 yards and 8 touchdowns.
He also participated in track and field, finishing second in the 110-meter hurdles state competition in Tennessee in 2019. He was in his third year with his major still undecided. He will never receive his Bachelor’s degree.

Devin Chandler is a William Amos Hough High School graduate where he initially started his football journey.
He was a three-star recruit while he was attending Hough. He was a real team player, according to his coach Matthew Jenkins, and an amazing person all around.
His high school classmates and teammates recall him as someone who enjoyed hanging out on and off the field, made everyone smile, and loved to dance with his pals.

While dominating the game but being humble and kind, Chandler never backed down from a challenge and was always encouraging, especially toward their opponents.
His family would invite his best friend Clevon Harmon home for supper. He had become a member of his family after meeting him in the first year of college.

Devin Chandler was born to his parents Dalayna Chandler and Naval officer father.
His mother, Dalayna Chandler, owns Chandler Educational Services, a small local tutoring, and visual learning business, and she lives in Resort City with his brother.
Devin’s father was a naval officer who had served at Naval Station Norfolk and attained the rank of lieutenant commander.

His best friend Clevon supported him through the sadness when his father passed away years earlier as a student at William Amos Hough High School.
He is also connected to Rickey Smiley, the comedian. Smiley remembered meeting Chandler and his mother, Dalayna, at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on the day Chandler first started looking at colleges in a roughly 20-minute video that he put on social media.
