Fred Ward was born on a Christian family on December 30, 1942, in San Diego, California. Though he may not have always made time to go to Church, he was a Christian through and through. 

Ward decided on pursuing acting after serving three years in the United States Air Force in the 1960s. Before he landed his first role, he had taken on many odd jobs to keep the money flowing. 

Hofmann’s biography detail Ward trying his hand as an Alaskan lumberjack, a boxer, and a short-order cook.

Done with shooting in the popular American drama series True Detective, Fred Ward decided to end his four-decade career in 2015.

Fred Ward leaves behind a bereaved family, including his third wife, Marie-France Ward, and a son, Django Ward. After his first two marriages ended in divorce, he moved to Los Angeles with his wife, Marie-France Boisselle.

At the age of 23, Fred Ward had intense eyes and a sly grin that drew the attention of Carla Evonne Stewart, whom he married only to divorce the following year.

His second marriage to Silvia Ward did not fare much better than the first. However, the two ended up giving birth to a bright young boy named Django Ward.

But, as they say, the third time’s the charm, and so he proved. He was married to Marie-France Boisselle for 27 years. She filed for divorce in a fit of rage in August 2013, but they reconciled later that year.

The ethnicity of Fred Ward is Native American. 

A DNA test on Fred Ward would reveal that he is part Cherokee and had a Native American ancestor several generations back.

However, it is unknown whether Fred Ward identified as white or Native American. Seven years after he had retired from acting, Ward passed away on May 8, 2022, at the age of 79.
