What Happened To Cain Velasquez, Why Is He In Jail? Court Sentence

Cain Velasquez was declined bail for the second time after the shooting victim spoke out for the first time since the incident, claiming he was afraid for his family's lives.

According to the Santa Clara County district attorney, Cain Velasquez chased down a car containing Harry Eugene Goularte. He is accused of molesting an underage relative of Velasquez.

The 39-year-old retired mixed martial artist was firing his registered handgun at the car when one of the bullets struck Goularte's stepfather, Paul Bender.

During the hearing of Cain Velasquez on May 16, the stepfather claimed that he had lost function in three fingers as a result of brachial artery damage from a gunshot wound to his arm.

What Happened To Cain Velasquez- Why Is He In Jail?

Cain Velasquez was thrown in jail on Feb 28 for the attempted murder of 43-year-old Harry Goularte.

After Velasquez's four-year-old son came forward with an accusation of molestation charges against Harry Goularte, Velasquez decided to take justice into his own hands.

His son attended the daycare opened by Harry's mother, Patricia. Goularte supposedly lived in the same building and would regularly come in contact with Velasquez's son.

According to a court document, the four-year-old told police on February 24 that Goularte had taken him into the bathroom of the daycare center and touched his genitals.

The child stated that Goularte instructed him not to tell anyone what had occurred and that this incident had potentially occurred over 100 times.

Goularte was released from custody without bail following his arraignment in Santa Clara County Superior Court on Feb. 25.

Velasquez, 39, allegedly pursued a vehicle that contained Goularte before firing multiple rounds with his registered .40 handgun into the vehicle, hitting the driver.

The mother of Goularte, Patricia, who was also in the car, called 911 for help. Soon enough, Velasquez was arrested and charged with multiple felony charges, including attempted murder.

Cain Velasquez Court Sentence

Cain Velasquez could face a court sentence of 20 years or more if convicted of attempted murder along with multiple firearms charges.

The Americal professional wrestler has been in police custody since Feb 28. His bail was denied on his first scheduled appearance in court on March 7. On May 16, the retired UFC great was denied bail a second time by Judge Shelyna Brown.

Cain has been charged with attempted murder and six charges related to firearms: shooting at a motor vehicle or aircraft, willfully discharging a firearm from a vehicle, assault with a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon, and carrying a loaded gun with intent to commit a felony.

The 39-year-old has a plea hearing scheduled for June 10.

Velasquez married his wife Michelle with whom he has two children. His family has been heavily affected by this avoidable tragedy. After marrying on May 28, 2011, they gave birth to a daughter in 2009 who just got her taste of teenage life.

Their son was born in 2018 and is only four years old.
