According to DailyMail, Baxter’s behavior toward his ex-wife got worse after Hannah had filed a domestic violence case. In March 2020, the poor mother had asked for police protection from Rowan, who used to beat her over and over again.

The DailyMail article also claims that Baxter was not crazy, but was a rather master manipulator. The CCTV footage had discovered him buying heavy flammable liquid before committing the horrendous crime. Unexpectedly, he also purchased three Kinder Surprise candies, likely for his kids.

Why Did Rowan Baxter Kill His Wife & Children?

According to Coroner Jane Bentley, Rowan Baxter was not mentally ill, however, was a “master of manipulation”.

Baxter had constantly displayed controlling and abusive behavior towards his wife. These included controlling what Hannah wore or demanding sex every night and criticizing her body image. He committed a “final act of cowardice” by killing his family and himself because he could not bear the public rebuke and the punishment he would have faced.

Bentley says in her statement: “I find it unlikely that any further actions taken by police officers, service providers, friends, or family members could have stopped Baxter from ultimately executing his murderous plans.”

According to the new inquest report, Hannah may have passed away due to Baxter’s fire-caused multi-organ failure. She had displayed “amazing bravery,” explaining to the witness what Baxter had done.

Bentley believes that in order to stop other tragedies, police training needed “urgent attention.” Her recommendation includes a face-to-face training program for domestic violence officers, an immediate domestic module for the officers, and funding for men’s behavior change programs in prisons and communities.
