Xzavion Curry (Atlanta, Georgia/Mays), a former Georgia Tech baseball star and seventh-round pick, has been promoted to the Cleveland Guardians’ Major League roster and will make his Big League debut on Monday in Cleveland’s doubleheader versus Detroit.

The Cleveland Indians chose curry in his junior season’s seventh round of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft. He committed to playing with the Indians., but he did not play right away.

He also did not play in 2020 because the COVID-19 epidemic forced the suspension of the minor league season. In 2021, he made his professional debut. With the Low-A East’s Lynchburg Hillcats before being promoted to the High-A Central’s Lake County Captains and the Double-A Northeast’s Akron RubberDucks throughout the campaign.

Curry made 19 starts between the three teams, going 8-1 with a 2.30 ERA, 123 strikeouts, and 97+2/3 innings pitched.

He had the sixth-lowest ERA in the minors. In June, he was promoted to the Columbus Clippers of the Triple-A International League after returning to Akron to start the 2022 season. 

According to Guardians manager Terry Francona, Curry was promoted to the major leagues on August 14, 2022, and would make his MLB debut the following day as the starting pitcher in the second game of a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers at Progressive Field.
