10 Facts To Know About Kentucky Wildcats Guard Adou Thiero

Adou Thiero is a combo guard who committed to play collegiate basketball at the University of Kentucky in early May.

The athlete chose to play for Kentucky Wildcats over Xavier, Cincinnati, Duquesne, Pittsburgh, and Maryland. Furthermore, he attended Quaker Valley High School in Leetsdale, Pennsylvania.

Per Wildcats head coach John Calipari, Thiero understands that nothing comes easy and has the potential to play on the ball or off and finish at the rim in various ways.

The freshman has talent and is driven to become the best of his ability; he is very passionate, so Calipari is excited to coach him to reach his goal. Thus, Adou has only started and will soar in the upcoming days with more training, guidance, and experience.

1) Adou Age:

Adou is 18 years old, born on the 8th of May 2004 in Leetsdale, Pennsylvania. 

His parents came to America from Mali to help their families back home and welcomed him in the middle of their college career; his mom was 24, and his dad was 20. They met in their home country Mali through basketball circles but immigrated to the United States separately. 

2) Adou’s Parents Are Also Basketball Players

The Kentucky Wildcats guard is the son of the former basketball players Mariam Sy and Almamy Thiero.

Almamy was one of the top power forward prospects during his high school, Class of 2002, and he played four seasons at Memphis from 2002 to 2006 and transferred to play college basketball at Duquesne.

Likewise, Mariam played for NAIA school Oklahoma City and the Washington Mystics drafted her 33 overall in the 2006 WNBA Draft. After quitting basketball, the pair began their coaching career at AAU, now called College Basketball Prospects of America.

3) Thiero’s Height:

The athlete currently stands 6 feet and 6 inches tall. His mom is 6 foot 4, and his dad is 6 foot 9; thus, the towering height is the genes of the Thiero family.

Adou was 5 feet and 7 inches during his first year in high school, grew 6 feet tall when he was a junior, and reached 6 feet and 5 inches during his senior year. 

4) The Kentucky Wildcats Guard Has Three Siblings:

Thiero is the eldest child of Mariam and Almamy, and he has three siblings Mimi, Yassa, and Nadiya.

Mimi, born in 2007, currently stands 6 feet and 2 inches tall eighth-grade athlete, poised to leave her mark on the basketball world. Likewise, Yassa was born in 2015, and the youngest, Nadiya, was born in 2019.

5) Adou chose to wear the number 3 because his father wore the same number during his career; Almamy career ended due to a fractured tibia, torn ACL, and blood clots. 

6) His favorite food is chicken and shrimp alfredo, and his favorite TV show is Power. Furthermore, his shoe collection is his most prized possession, and he enjoys playing video games while away from the court.

7) Thiero has his merch, a collection of sweatshirts, sweatpants, tank tops, shorts, long-sleeves, shirts, t-shirts, and more. Furthermore, he collaborates with Boosted Biz for marketing. 

8) Adou is active on social media; he goes by the username @adou_thiero and has 7.5k followers. The basketball player uses the platform to share his achievements with his well-wishers.

9) His head coach John Calipari also coached his father during his playing career. Almamy and John maintained a good relationship even after the former basketball player stopped playing the sport. 

10) The basketball player was a gym rat growing up. He would follow his dad to the gym and work out to improve his games.
