Who Is Muhammad al-Zawahiri? Details on Ayman al-Zawahiri Brother
Muhammad al-Zawahiri is an engineer and was one of 14 individuals who underwent extraordinary rendition by the CIA before the War on Terror in 2001. He was a limb of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad.
His name has a resemblance to that of his father. They are both named Mohammed al-Zawahiri, although his father had the middle name Rabie, while he does not. Born in 1953, he is 69 years old.
A suspected al-Qaeda affiliate now in Egypt on parole on terrorism-related charges, Muhammad al-Zawahiri is the younger brother of al-Qaeda Emir Ayman al-Zawahiri.
He is accused of organizing and arming a terrorist organization with ties to al-Qaeda and leading militants in Cairo, the Nile Delta, and the Sinai Peninsula. In August, police captured him in Cairo.
Having graduated from Cairo University's engineering college in 1974, Muhammad relocated to Saudi Arabia and began working for a construction company.
His brother accused him of recruiting the Egyptians Mustafa Kamel Mustafa and Abdel Hadi al-Tunsi while residing in Saudi Arabia. This led to his name being included in an absentee indictment for the killing of Anwar Sadat in 1981, but they could not prove him guilty.
