Tate, who wore No. 32 throughout his time at UGA, passed away 32 days before Georgia's 2022 season got off. He was a key rusher for the teams that won the national championships in 1986 and 1987 and was a member of the Four Horsemen in the backfield.

When Lars Tate graduated from North Central High in Indianapolis and signed with Georgia in 1984, he was named the Gatorade National Offensive Player of the Year. Tate graduated from Georgia in 1987 with 3,017 career running yards, which now ranks sixth all-time for the Bulldogs.

Tate spent three seasons in the NFL after being selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1988. He was flipped at the line of scrimmage in his rookie season, landed on his feet, and then ran the last 46 yards for a score, making it one of the Bucs' all-time great highlights.
