His parents were David Rigmaiden, an engineer at Naval Postgraduate School, and Mary Jane Rigmaiden. Furthermore, Daniel has a brother Sean Rigmaiden.

However, he was caught in May 2008 and charged with multiple felonies of tax fraud and identity theft. The FBI team caught him through Stringray, a cell-site simulator, and his Verizon AirCard.
In April 2014, Daniel eventually pled guilty and was sentenced to life imprisonment. But a plea agreement permitted him to walk freely. Daniel was also sentenced to three years on probation, 100 hours of community service, and the forfeiture of almost $470,000 in looted funds.
