As quoted in the WA Today, he said: "We know he can [get back in football], we know he has the potential to do it but it's up to him. First and foremost we want him to stop doing drugs and get himself sorted out first. If he plays footy again that's good,"

Humphries said he believed that Garlett had learned his lesson. He said: "Hopefully he makes the right choices in life. We'd love him to play football again."

Garlett was a promising prospect since the age of 19. Then in 2013, he participated in the AFL draft. Nevertheless, his drug use escalated at a very young age when he moved to Melbourne after being drafted by Hawthorn.

In 2013, he was selected as the 38th overall pick in the AFL drafts by the Hawthorns. While many clubs gave up on him, the Hawthorns' coach Alastair Clarkson regularly contacted Garlett, which gave the club the faith to pick him.

Garlett became a controversial figure in 2015. He was accused of carrying out violent break-ins, stealing cars, racing more than 45 km/h over the speed limit, dodging police, possessing amphetamines, and even stealing a $40 pair of Target pants.

He pleaded guilty to all counts and to twice breaching intensive supervision orders. In addition, the former ALF recruit was fighting his drug addictions. The Fallen Hawthorn recruit was eventually sentenced to almost five years in prison.
