Draupadi Murmu is of Indian ethnicity and is a native of the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha.

Murmu served as a councillor in the Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat after winning elections in 1997, and as vice-president of the BJP's Scheduled Tribes Morcha before becoming an MLA.

She was Jharkhand's first female governor. She was the first Odisha tribal leader to be appointed as governor of an Indian state.

Murmu was chosen by the BJP in June 2022 to represent the National Democratic Alliance in the upcoming month's presidential election in India.

Draupadi Murmu was mother to two sons sadly both of them passed away.

She is still a mother to her daughter.

Biranchi Narayan Tudu gave birth to Draupadi Murmu on June 20, 1958, in Baidaposi village, Mayurbhanj district, Odisha.

Her father and grandparents were both Panchayati Raj local chiefs. Shyam Charan Murmu married Draupadi Murmu.
