Who Is Dylan Menante From UNC? 5 Facts On The US Amateur Golf Sensation

Dylan Menante is a professional golf player from the USA who has been honored with the All-American mention two times; by Golfweek and the GCAA/PING as a junior. He spent three seasons (2019-2022) as a member of Pepperdine University’s sports team, the Pepperdine Waves, and has since transferred to the University of North Carolina. 

As part of the Waves, Menante guided Pepperdine to the 2021 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship and finished his stint ranking second in career scoring average (70.98). The golfer is now in conversation because he is one of five players from Carolina who entered the ongoing U.S. Amateur. On August 18, 2022, at the Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, New Jersey, he won his round-of-32 match.

Dylan Dean Menante Is 21 Years Old And Already A Star In Making

Menante was born on May 19, 2001, in Reno, Nevada, to parents Lisa and Dean Menante. The golfer hails from a family of enthusiastic athletes, which may be a contributing factor to his dexterity in sports. 

Menante’s mother played tennis at Nevada, while his father played golf. He has been walking in his father’s footsteps pretty impressively. Besides golf, Menante enjoys playing tennis, ping pong, and pickleball. He is an alumnus of Sage Creek High School in Carlsbad, California, where he received foundational training for his career in golf.

At Sage Creek High School in Carlsbad, California, Menante participated in three years of varsity golf under Coach David Walther and received first-team All-CIF recognition in 2018 and second-team in 2017. He also brought home a CIF Academic Award.

Menante is not the only child in his family; he has three sisters, Chloe, Ashley, and Lexie.  

Dylan Menante Represented The U.S. team In The 2021 And 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup

Dylan qualified for the American team in the Arnold Palmer Cup in 2021 and 2022. Dylan has a 5-3 record in the Palmer Cup over the course of two seasons and won three matches at the event held in Switzerland in 2022. 

The enthusiastic golfer has also won the Northeast Amateurs in 2021 and 2022 and competed in the U.S. Amateur in 2018 and 2020–22. With a 19-under- par 257 (62-64-64-67) record in the tournament, Dylan won the 2022 Northeast Am by nine shots. He was named to the AJGA Rolex second-team All-America in 2019 and received an honorable mention in 2018.

Likewise, Dylan won the 2017 California State Boys Junior Amateur Championship and three AJGA championships, to be exact. He has achieved a ranking of No. 13 on Junior Golf Scoreboard and No. 12 in the AJGA/Polo Golf rankings.

Dylan Menante Played Three Season With Pepperdine Waves

Menante played for the Pepperdine Waves for three seasons, from 2019 to 2022, before moving to North Carolina University. Dylan’s freshman average at Pepperdine was 70.95, the second-best mark in school history for a freshman. In his rookie season, he participated in seven tournaments, shot a total of 16 under par over 21 rounds, finished in three of the top ten spots, and finished in five of the top twenty. He was a Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete and received bronze honors on the WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Dylan helped Pepperdine win the NCAA title during his second season. In addition to receiving honors for All-WCC and PING All-West Region, he was named to the third team of the GCAA, Golfweek All-America, and West Coast Conference Player of the Year. In his sophomore year at Pepperdine, Dylan averaged a team-high 70.74 and ranked fifth in school history. Additionally, he was a Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete, a first-team Academic All-WCC selection, a member of the GCAA All-America Scholars team, and a silver recipient of the WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll in his second season with Waves.

Dylan guided Pepperdine to a tie for third place in the NCAA Championship and the national semifinals during his junior season. He was named the second consecutive West Coast Conference Player of the Year in addition to receiving honorable mention of All-America recognition from the GCAA and Golfweek. Dylan received silver honors on the WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, was a Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete, and was named a GCAA All-America Scholar during his last season with Pepperdine.

Dylan Menante Has Transferred To North Carolina University

After the 2022 NCAA Championship, Menante transferred to North Carolina University. He stunned everyone when he decided to quit Pepperdine 10 days after his junior year had completed. Menante gave a few explanations for his abrupt exit when speaking with Global Golf Post.

According to Dylan, he and his coach didn’t get along very well. He found them quite different from him—specifically, considerably more extroverted—and it was hard for him to strike a conversation. Dylan also acknowledged that living away from college didn’t make him feel as wonderful. Going from a small, remote, private Christian school to a prestigious public university, Menante hoped to have a more typical college experience which he did not get from Pepperdine.

Transfers like this one, while rare, do raise some interesting issues for Generation Z college golfers who are competing in a time when the transfer portal is so pervasive in NCAA Division I athletics.

Dylan Menante Stands At The Height Of 5 Feet and 8 Inches

Dylan Menante carries a height of 5 feet and 8 inches. The golfer is currently in major talks for his performance in the ongoing U.S. Amateur 2022.

Dylan, who is a competitor in the 2022 U.S. Amateur, has a strong argument for why his participation this season will be remembered as the most memorable one. He had Dean, his father, in his bag. Moreover, on August 19, 2022, the pair of Dylan and Dean defeated Nicholas Gross 4–3, and it was the first time in Dylan’s four U.S. Amateur outings that he was able to reach the semifinals.

His father has been a wonderful support throughout this amazing run. Dylan’s father participated in the 1984 U.S. Amateur while playing golf in college at the University of Nevada in the 1980s.
