Elena Krawzow is a Paralympian who has been suffering from headaches since winning gold in the 100-meter chest event at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
In an emotional Instagram post on October 16, she revealed that she had been diagnosed with “a tumor in the upper left hemisphere.”
Elena had one last wish to marry Phillip, whom she met in a competition in 2009, before undergoing brain surgery. She claims she wanted to marry Phillip in her current state because she is unsure how she will feel following the procedure.
The couple has been dating since 2018.

Elena Krawzow has a disability where she is legally blind, with only 3% of her vision remaining. She cannot see her opponents, the ripples, the photographer, and the reaction. However, she professes she can hear the shutter click and the instructions and encouragement.
Krawzow was born in Mergen, Kazakhstan, a small village in the south, in the year 1993. Her country had only been independent for a year and a half. Krawzow’s family struggled to find work and make ends meet. Tea and bread were sometimes all she and her siblings consumed.
Things got even more challenging for Krawzow when she was seven. Her teachers observed her squinting and straining to see the chalkboard. When she tried to read, she would hold books up to her nose.
The family’s need to flee became more pressing. They first traveled to Russia, where her macular degeneration was diagnosed at a Moscow eye hospital. Krawzow was placed in a boarding school for children with special needs.
In Germany, a sports teacher, Michael Heuer, helped her realize that swimming could help to be an outlet for her. She did her training during the week, counting strokes and lengths.

Elena Krawzow, 28, said yes to her friend and trainer Phillip Semechin, 36, on November 1st, according to “Bild.” The wedding was held in Petershagen, near Berlin, in the closest family circle, just one day before her major tumor surgery on November 3rd.
The couple had no idea they could get married until the morning of the wedding. She claims the wedding was a spur-of-the-moment affair, with the rings arriving earlier in the day.
They were married in the registry office before their loved ones, who had come to surprise them. Her friend, Nuremberg-based bridal fashion designer Thu-Lia, transformed her into a stunning bride.
