Semkiw got into track and field when she met Dunfee, and the athlete made her fall in love with the sport.

Per The Star, the teacher owns a bicycle, and she has named her cycle after the Dutch track star Femke Bol. While she drove to the world championships to watch her man race, she had dinner with the Canadian heptathlete Brianne Theisen-Eaton and her husband, decathlete Ashton Eaton.

However, Sara has also shared that she has been unable to attend every race Evan ran because of the distance. She further posted a video of her celebrating the athlete's bronze medal win in the Olympics 50 km racewalk as they were in Vancouver, and the Olympics took place at Sapporo on the 7th of August 2021.
