Grant and Kathryn aren’t married, but they have been living together for quite a while now. Hanley is engaged and ready to have his wedding soon.

National Team

Hanley led Scotland’s under-19 team as their captain. He took the field for Scotland’s under-21 squad on November 17, 2010, at 18, in a 3-1 victory over Northern Ireland. Hanley received his first call-up to the senior Scotland team on February 1 in preparation for the Nations Cup match against Northern Ireland.

On May 25, 2011, he entered the game as a full-time substitute and made his international debut. His first Scotland goal came on March 22, 2013, in his fifth full international match against Wales at home. He started the scoring. Additionally, he was a member of Scotland’s Euro 2021 team. Despite his impressive tournament performance, Scotland was eliminated from the competition after a 3-1 loss to Croatia.

Club Career

Hanley led the Rovers under-18 team as captain. The year 2010 was significant for Hanley as he was about to debut in EPL, one of the most influential football leagues in the world. Hanley made his Premier League debut for Rovers in May that year in a 1-0 victory at Aston Villa. He was praised with a five-year contract with the club in July 2010.

On January 8, 2011, he made his FA Cup debut in a 1-0 victory over QPR. Hanley scored his first goal for Rovers on March 5, 2011, in a 3-2 loss to Fulham at Craven Cottage. Even though he would later make his international debut, that was the last of his nine first-team Blackburn outings that season. He sustained ankle ligament damage on April 14, 2012, during a Premier League encounter at the Liberty Stadium against Swansea City. Hanley played for Rovers in 28 games and scored one goal in all competitions, but the team was demoted to the Championship.

He signed another five-year contract with the club at the end of that season and was named the team’s captain. However, on July 21, 2016, Hanley agreed to a five-year contract with the Championship team Newcastle United for an unknown amount. He was expected to continue his legacy at the new club, but he moved to another club after the completion of the 2016/17 season.

Norwich City Debut

Hanley signed a four-year contract with Norwich City on August 30, 2017, for an unknown figure. Hanley quickly established himself in the team despite having been somewhat of an emergency purchase, given that Norwich had started the season with several injuries and playing inexperienced center backs. On September 9, 2017, he played his first game, entering the game as a substitute in a 1-0 victory over Birmingham City.

Hanley was named Norwich’s new club captain at the start of the 2018–19 season following the departure of their previous head coach. He participated in Norwich’s first six league games before being injured in practice. On his return, Hanley was only allowed to make a few substitute appearances. In the first fifteen minutes of his first return game against Portsmouth, he was sent for a professional foul on Ronan Curtis, and Norwich went on to lose 1-0. However, Hanley came on as a substitute in the 89th minute of the season finale, as Norwich overcame Aston Villa 2-1 to win the Championship. With that victory, Norwich City was promoted to the EPL, significantly boosting the squad’s confidence.

Promotion To EPL

Hanley’s own goal against Liverpool on August 9 during a 4-1 loss was the first Premier League goal of the 2019–20 campaign. [30] Despite this, he kept his starting spot for the next two Premier League games until he suffered another injury in practice. Hanley played in 15 of the season’s first 29 league games and scored in a 2-1 victory over Burnley to help Norwich advance to their first FA Cup quarterfinal in over 20 years. He didn’t participate in the rest of the season due to injury, and Norwich was relegated back to the Championship after finishing last in the Premier League.

On October 17, 2020, he made his first appearance of the 2020–21 campaign in Norwich’s 2-1 victory over Rotherham United in the team’s fifth game. Hanley started most of the season, and Norwich eventually won the EFL Championship for the second time in three years. Hanley extended his agreement with the team through June 30, 2025, in advance of Norwich’s promotion to the Premier League.

On November 20, he scored his first goal of the year in Norwich’s 2-1 victory over Southampton. Hanley would play in 33 Premier League games throughout that season, in addition to two FA Cup games and one Carabao Cup game. On the other hand, Norwich had yet another poor campaign as they finished last and were immediately demoted back to the Championship. They are placed second in EFL and have completed almost 40% of total games this season.
