Gilbert Burns Parents Herbert And Tania Burns And Brazilian Family Roots

Gilbert Burns parents Herbert and Tania Burns raised three boys who are martial arts specialists. Gilbert is the middle child of the couple.

Tania and Herbert continue to live in their hometown in Brazil, though they had previously shared their interest in joining their son in Florida to live with their grandchildren.

If there is anyone that Gilbert has to thank for his martial arts career, it is his father, Herbert Sr. He is the man who introduced him to the sport and made him realize that he could one day make a career out of it.

The 36-year-old will make his much-awaited comeback to the octagon ring on January 22 against Neil Magny after he had been out of the scenes since his loss to Khazmat Chimaev in April 2022.

Gilbert Burns parents Herbert And Tania Burns looked towards sports to treat his pulmonary disease.

His mother, Tania, has a nursing degree and his father, Herbert Sr, has a degree in law.

Herbert and Tania are natives of Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, and raised their three boys in the country that loves sports like no other. Herbert ran a upholster business in his hometown and was the one to introduce martial arts to his three sons.

Gilbert and his younger brother suffered from pulmonary disease growing up, and one of the cures was to play sports actively. At first, Tania and Herbert thought swimming would be perfect, but it was martial arts that the boys went on to pick up.

Such was Herbert’s trust in his son’s martial arts skills that he decided he would ask one of his clients to teach Gilbert martial arts free for three months rather than take money for lending the client his land. In his interview with MMA Fighting in 2020, Herbert revealed he was close to graduating from Law school and was planning to shift to Florida with his partner, Tania.

Tania was pursuing a nursing degree and wanted to move to The Sunshine State to be close to their sons and grandchildren. And her love for her family is evident on her social media pages.

Tania’s Instagram handle is filled with pots of her grandchildren and her husband. Tania and Herbert are big fans of martial arts and are equally bigger fans of another contact sport, soccer.

In May 2022, Gilbert shared a congratulatory post for his mother, Tania, as she completed her nursing degree at 64. Congratulations were in order for mama Gilbert under the post, with many of Gilbert’s fans and friends leaving their good wishes.

Only last night, Herbert was spotted wearing the Fluminense jersey as he and Tania travelled to Maracana stadium to watch his team take on Nova Iguacu. This also hints that the couple has preferred to live in their native land, Brazil, rather than travel to the USA as they had initially planned in 2020.
