Before the season was suspended by COVID-19 in 2020 against New Mexico, Hall hit a grand slam. He quickly moved up the depth chart during his rookie season in 2018.

As a freshman, he overtook Joe Critchlow to move up to third quarterback behind Zach Wilson and Tanner Mangum.

In 2019, while Zach Wilson was sidelined following shoulder surgery, Hall played most of the first-team reps at quarterback during spring practices.

Jaren Hall took over as the quarterback for BYU’s football team in 2019. Hall became well-known to start as quarterback for the Cougars when he took Zach Wilson’s place against USF that season due to an injury.

During the 2019 season, Hall started two games. Unfortunately, he had to leave those games early because of the concussion.

In his final game activity at BYU, his start against Utah State, he passed for 214 yards and ran for an additional 54 yards in just one half of play.

Hall is the head coach of a BYU program that he grew up watching because his father, Kalin, was a former running back for the Cougars.

In an interview with KSL Sports, Hall stated, “I’m from here, BYU; it’s my hometown. I’ve always wanted to play quarterback at BYU. “Therefore, it’s a dream come true every day.

On the 2022 preseason watch list, only Hall represented BYU.  BYU plays the South Florida Bulls in Tampa; he starts his quest to win the Maxwell Award.
