Caleb Swanigan was a former American professional basketball player who played for Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA. The NBA star died on June 21, 2022, because of natural causes.

He was born on April 18, 1997, in Indianapolis, the U.S. He had a very rough childhood as his father was a drug addict and could look after his family properly. He used to switch his residence between Utah and Indianapolis. Caleb mainly lived in a homeless shelter.

Mr. Swanigan inherited two habits from his father. One of those is his physique, which helped Swanigan a lot in his professional basketball career, whereas overeating was another habit.

Their family didn’t have a stable financial income, resulting in eating lots of junk food as their daily meal. That food was cheap and easily accessible to them. As a result, his father, Carl Swanigan Sr; developed diabetes and died in 2014.

Worried about his over-eating habit, Caleb’s brother asked his former AAU basketball coach, Roosevelt Barnes, to help him by taking him under his wing. Roosevelt agreed to help only if he could adopt Caleb and bring him as his son. After Caleb got adopted, his habits improved drastically, and he was seen as one of the prominent talents in his high school.

when Caleb started her career had a decent first year, averaging 10 points per game for 46% shooting. In his sophomore years, when he would take off with an average of 18 and a half points per game, shooting 45% from 3 and 32 1/2 minutes per game, he finally hit the ultimate goal when he got drafted 26th overall by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2017 NBA draft.

And, well, that’s when things came crashing down for Caleb because when he was in Portland, he wouldn’t necessarily get a ton of playing time, only getting 7 minutes per game and 8.1 minutes per game. He got traded to Sacramento Kings in exchange for Skylab Sea.

Finally, on January 20, 2020, he got traded back to the Portland Trail Blazers with Trevor Ariza for Kent Bazemore. He achieved his best stats for the beam scoring only three points per game, shooting 61% from the field in 13.3 minutes.

A week before he would get traded back to the Portland Trail Blazers, Caleb Swanigan got pulled over around 2:00 am by Columbia City police. During the stop, police found 3.5 pounds of marijuana, $3415 in cash, and some paraphernalia. Swanigan was arrested and booked into the Whitley County Jail, and he would get released on bond.

This incident affected his career a lot as he wouldn’t get much playing time, which resulted in him becoming more obese. After the incident, he wasn’t seen in public or media, but when he eventually came for his court hearing, he gained excessive weight.

He was highly obese at the time of his death. His medical condition wasn’t as excellent as he was seen in the media after a long time. He might be suffering from diabetes or heart disease.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office confirmed to the press that He died of natural causes on June 21, 2022.
