On Friday, June 24, 2022, Thomas advocated for repealing the court's affirmation of LGBTQ rights and access to contraceptives as constitutional rights.

Is Clarence Thomas Retiring?

Justice Clarence Thomas will not retire any soon, as suggested by him in an interview in 2019.

The lawyer has said that he wants to stay in the Supreme Court until his death. His exact words in the interview were; "I'm not retiring."

Nevertheless, he has always been rumored to be exiting his position due to his falling age. The 74-year-old is currently the third oldest justice on the Supreme Court.

The Justice had begun his career as a near outcast. With a tenure of more than 30 years as of 2018, Thomas has been the Court's longest-serving member.

Justice Thomas Wants Scouts To Reconsider Same-Sex Marriage and Contraception

Thomas had argued in a concurring opinion released on Friday about the Same-Sex marriage and contraception. He had concurred with the majority in the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Thus, the Justice says that the court should go for gay marriage, birth control, and the basic right to privacy. Notably absent: interracial marriage.


In his separate decision, Thomas's decision does not directly affect rights besides abortion. He wrote:  “In future cases, we should reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell.”

Meet Clarence Thomas Family Members

Clarence Thomas has been married twice in his life. He is currently married to Virginia Thomas since 1987.

Before Virginia, he was married to Kathy Ambush from 1971 to 1984. With his first, wife, he shares an adult son named  Jamal Adeen Thomas, who works as an actor and television presenter.

As per Thomas' Wikipedia, his father M.C. Thomas, abandoned the family when Thomas was only two years old. His family home was destroyed and only his mother was the sole provider. He also has a brother named Myers Lee Thomas.
