Republican voters on Tuesday gave the edge to Governor Pete Ricketts's preferred candidate, founder and chairman of Pillen Family Farms Jim Pillen, in the hard-fought race to replace Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts.

Jim Pillen married Suzanne Shreve after graduating from UNL with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. He then earned a doctorate in veterinary medicine from Kansas State.

Jim returned to Nebraska in 1983 and established a small animal practice and swine consulting practice.
