Yes, Rita is the daughter of the singer, songwriter, and guitarist Smiley Wilson and his wife Kitty (Carson) Wilson, who also belongs to the music background.

Rita likely made one of the earliest radio appearances when her parents scheduled an appearance with her when she was three weeks old. Growing up, she was used to performing with her parents. Rita made her musical debut on the Louisiana Hayride at four, and at seven, she made an appearance on the Grand Ole Opry. She recorded her debut record for MGM when she was seven years old.
