Does Jeremy Paxman Have A Parkinson’s Diagnosis? Journalist Replacement And Health Issues

A successful broadcaster, journalist, and television host from England, Jeremy Dickson Paxman has had his share of successful careers at Newsnight, BBC Radio Brighton, BBC America, BBC World, and other networks. Furthermore, he holds the credit for writing the books, A Higher Form of Killing, Friends in High Places: Who Runs Britain?, and Empire: What Ruling the World Did to the British, among others.

Paxman publicly announced in 2021 that he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease; however, during that time, his symptoms were said to be minor. He was also confirmed to be receiving treatment then. Moreover, he also reaffirmed that he would continue writing and broadcasting as long as his health permitted.

However, Paxman revealed on August 16, 2022, that he is leaving the position he had been fulfilling as part of BBC for almost 29 years. We are unsure of the specific reason, but it could be because of his illness or his advanced age of 72. This week’s end will see the introduction of a new host as his replacement.

In 2021, Jeremy Paxman personally disclosed that he had received a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis. The former journalist and host of BBC University Challenge said in a statement that he was receiving good treatment and his symptoms were mild.

Jeremy went on to comment further on his condition in Saga Magazine, remarking that while he won’t pretend that having an incurable brain disease is enjoyable, things could be worse. In his column, he noted, “It isn’t a deadly prognosis, but it sure as hell may make living a bit of a struggle.” The TV host continued by saying that he is fortunate to at least have the solace of being in the company of others and with family.

Jeremy Paxman Left The BBC Show, University Challenge: His Replacement

Television host Jeremy Paxman revealed on August 16, 2022, that he is leaving his position as host of University Challenge after nearly 30 years. BBC has already found his replacement which is yet to be announced.

While the BBC has not yet announced Jeremy’s potential replacement for the quiz show, let us look into potential candidates. According to Betfair, Bruce, the host of Question Time, is 2/1 to succeed Paxman. She already hosts a few programs on BBC, making her the most likely option.

Richard Osman is the next favorite in the betting and is close behind at 3/1. Osman announced his retirement from Pointless earlier this year after finding success as an author. But, he was persuaded to host another show in addition to House of Games. Victoria Coren Mitchell, the host of Only Connect, is third in line at 7/2 with Betfair. She is another person with the credentials to host the program. Next is Clive Myrie, a BBC News presenter, who is 5/1, just in front of Professor Brian Cox, who is 6/1.

Furthermore, Mishal Hussain and Victoria Derbyshire, former hosts of Newsnight and Panorama, are both 8/1. Additionally, Dara O’Briain and Richard Ayoade, hosts of the upcoming Mock the Week, are listed on 9/1. With Wark filling in for Paxman in a Children in Need episode last year, June Sarpong and Kirsty Wark are 12/1. Boris Johnson, who will soon be unemployed, is last but by no means least, coming in at 25/1.

Jeremy Paxman Girlfriend

It is unclear if Jeremy Paxman is in a relationship; however, he is not married for sure. He was previously in a long-term relationship with his partner of 34 years, Elizabeth Clough, but split in 2016.

Elizabeth and Jeremy were co-workers for the BBC on Newsnight, and that is where the two first crossed paths. Along the way, they started dating and eventually started a house in Stonor, southeast Oxfordshire, but never married. Jessica, 26, and Victoria and Jack, twins, are the couple’s children.

Following his breakup with Elizabeth, there were rumors that Jeremy was seeing book editor Jillian Taylor, who was 29 years more senior than Jeremy. He collaborated closely with her on authoring his historical works like Empire: What Ruling the World Did to the British.
