Snooker has been a massive part of the Parrotts. John is a former professional snooker player and television personality from Liverpool, England.

He was prominent on the professional snooker circuit in the late 1980s and early 1990s and among the top 16 players in the global rankings for fourteen straight seasons. He won the 1991 World Championship defeating Jimmy in the final.

In addition, he defeated Jimmy once more to win the 1991 UK Championship in the same year, becoming just the third player to win both titles in a single year.

With a 221-century break and number two global ranking for three seasons, he is regarded as one of the best English players in this game. Outside snooker, Parrott received an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in 1996 for his charitable work in Merseyside.

John Parrott wife Karen Parrott has expertise in the medical field. Karen previously worked as a secretary in the Orthopaedic unit.

Karen was known by her maiden name Karen Tasker before she wed John. She was raised along with her younger sister, Janine Ferguson, by her father Tony Tasker.

The couple has been married for over three decades and has two kids. The couple celebrated the player’s 1991 world championship together. In one picture, the long-term couple can be seen hugging while holding the trophy after the tournament. 

Karen’s sister, Janine, is married to Duncan Ferguson, a former Scottish football player. Janine and Duncan tied the knot in June 1998 and have been married for 24 years.

Although the 58-year-old player had established himself as one of the best players on the planet, his married life was a little challenging. 

Parrott withdrew from “A Question of Sport,” informing the audience that he had “other responsibilities” in 2002. According to Express, the Liverpool-born parted ways with the British television sports quiz show to spend more time with his partner.

Although Parrott was sad to leave the program, his family struggled with his extended absence. In addition, the traveling was difficult, he said in a 2002 interview with the Daily Telegraph.

After leaving the show, he had a lot of leisure, which he could spend with his partner and children.

Karen, the long-time partner of Parrott, is also a snooker enthusiast who accompanied her husband in his tournaments. However, she has maintained a low-key profile and has stayed away from social media.

Karen first gained media attention and rose in prominence after her famous picture with John after the 1991 snooker world championship.

John Parrott Is The Father Of Two Kids

John Parrott has two kids with his partner Karen whom they are raising in Liverpool.

Parrott has a son, Josh Parrott, and a daughter, Ellie Parrott. The couple became parents for the first time in 1994 with the birth of their son Josh. They welcomed their second kid, daughter Ellie, in 1997. She is usually called Ali.

John’s focus changed away from athletics after his children were born. He said his interest in the game had decreased after being a father. “My priorities shifted when the kids were born,” he added.

The snooker icon was hesitant to leave behind the new household experiences his partner and children had introduced into his life.

He claims that his vision of paradise is waking up to the radio playing in the kitchen and seeing the two kids seated at the table while his love hustles about preparing a cup of tea and a bacon sandwich.

After nearly three decades of being a father for the first time, his son and daughter have started their own families. His son is currently 28, and his daughter is 25.

John Parrott was born to an English family in a working class household.

His parents gave birth to him in Liverpool, England, on May 11, 1964.  According to the Independent, the 58-year-old former player once said he didn’t have a brother or a sister growing up, so he never experienced a family setup. After he welcomed his children, the four of them became incredibly close-knit.

Parrott has been one of the wealthiest snooker players in history, but his origin is different. His father, Alan, was a painter and decorator by trade. Moreover, his parents and other relatives were always Everton Fc fans. Their love and passion for Football are unmeasurable.

Their love for Football and the premier league club, Everton, has been handed down through the generations in his household, and he passed it on to his child Josh. He was only four when he got his Everton kit. Parrott, who jokingly accuses his father of causing the “years of suffering” at Goodison Park, also credits him with launching his snooker career.

His dad introduced him to just about every sport when he was a kid, including Football and cricket. He was around 12-13 when he tried snooker for the first time with his dad. Alan was a good player who could pot balls. 

His Brother In Law Is A Football Icon

John Parrott’s sister-in-law Janine Tasker is married to former football star Duncan Ferguson. 

Duncan is a former professional football player from Stirling, Scotland. Ferguson served as Everton’s interim manager in 2019 and 2022.

He started his professional career in 1990 at Dundee United before moving to Rangers in 1993 for a then-record British transfer price. Ferguson spent the rest of his career in England. He joined Everton in 1994 and played there until his retirement in 2006. He also played for Newcastle United from 1998 to 2000.

Ferguson won the FA Cup with Everton in 1995 during his playing career. He played at UEFA Euro 1992 and earned seven caps for Scotland. He has scored more goals in England’s Premier League than any other Scottish player. Ferguson received a promotion to the Everton first-team coaching staff in 2014.
