Josh Radnor And Cristin Milioti Together Worked As A Co-Star On How I Met Your Mother

Josh Radnor and Cristin Milioti dated in reel life but not real life. They didn't fall in love with each other off-screen.

Josh and Cristin worked as co-stars in the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, where they played Ted Mosby and Tracy McConnell. The sitcom aired in 2005 and ended in 2014, lasting nine years.

Mosby is a 27-year-old architect living in New York City at the beginning of HIMYM. The fictional character was born on the 25th of April 1978, and he graduated from Wesleyan University.

Likewise, McConnell was born on the 19th of September, 1984. Her late boyfriend left her a Ukulele, and she also became a band member who played bass guitar. Her name only got confirmed in the series finals, and she was also an unseen character for some period (from Lucky Penny to The Time Travelers). 

The story revolves around Ted sharing his love life as a single man with his children, Luke and Penny. He shared his journey with his four friends, eventually leading him to meet their mother through flashbacks.

The protagonist met the mother of Luke and Penny at the Farhampton train station following his friend's wedding (Barney Stinson and Robin Scherbatsky). They went on their first date in the episode Gary Blauman, and he proposed to his future wife in ep The Lighthouse. 

Tracy McConnell could not meet the future Ted Mosby and her grown-up children. The ending script was not so satisfying for the viewers.

Unlike other couples who end happily ever after in tv shows, Ted and Tracy had a sad ending. The mother lost her life to an undisclosed illness in 2024, six years before her husband told their story to his kids in the show.

McConnell only appeared in 25 episodes from 2013 to 2014, but her role strongly impacted the sitcom and its viewers. She appeared as an unseen character in the first eight episodes and debuted her full appearance in "Something New." She later got promoted to lead character in season 9 in the series final.

While everyone expected them to meet and have a reunion finally, the writers and creators had a different story for her from the beginning. Mosby asks his children if he can move on with Robin to find love in the final scene. It made the viewers unsatisfied with how the show ended.

Fans also petitioned to rewrite and reshoot the finale, which collected over 20,000 signatures and considerable online news coverage. Daily News also shared how those audiences didn't want the mother to die after ten years together and the protagonist ending up with Robin Scherbatsky.

Following the response, Carter Bays, the sitcom creator, announced that an alternate ending would be included on the Season 9 DVD via Twitter on the 5th of April 2014. Although no new materials got added, Tracy was alive when Ted told the story in 2030.

A significant change made was the part where the main character said to his kids how lucky he is to wake up next to their mom every morning and his amazed he is at how easy life was in the past. He also didn't return to Scherbatsky and had a long, happy marriage with his wife. 

Josh and Cristin both have kept their love lives far from the spotlight. They have been in a few relationships but kept it low.

Radnor Has A Girlfriend

Josh revealed his excitement by disclosing he was happily dating a girl to Page Six in November 2022.

The actor disclosed his relationship status as taken during the premiere of Fleishman Is in Trouble. He started going out with his new partner while filming the mini-series.

Randor previously dated the American actresses Minka Kelly and Lindsay Price. He also got linked to Abigail Spencer, his Rectify alum who appeared in two episodes of How I Met Your Mother.

Although he is 48, born on the 29th of July 1974 in Columbus, Ohio, U.S., he has yet to tie the knot and start a family. Josh said he is scared of a bad marriage and ending up at odds with his spouse. So, he is relieved about being able to play that out in a fictional context.

However, he is good with kids and is a dog person. He has a pet dog named Nelson, whom he adores a lot. Nelson became a part of his life in August 2020, and Randor has posted many pictures of his puppy on his Instagram.

Cristin Was In A Relationship

Cristin is currently not dating anyone. She was previously in a relationship with Jesse Hooker.

Jesse is an actor and furniture maker, per New York Times. He is also Lorna Luft's son and Judy Garland's grandson.

Many fans thought the couple was engaged, but Milioti cleared the air by revealing that they haven't promised to spend their together forever. She also gave a glimpse into their love life during the promotion of the 2014 series A to Z (the series got canceled after five episodes).

The pair met through a mutual friend and had already spent five years together. However, the actress hinted at being single in 2016 as they stopped posting pictures of each other on social media. 

She also had sad and eye-opening moments during 2016, per Distratify, which was ego-shattering. Milioti also turned to self-help books and adopted an adorable dog named Rupert in 2017.
