His father’s name is Muhammed Nasiru Usman, while his mother’s name is unknown. Kamaru has two brothers- Kashetu Usman and Mohammed Usman. Mohammed is a fellow UFC fighter who competes in the heavyweight division.

In May 2010, Kamaru’s father was convicted of several felonies, including health care fraud and money laundering. Before this, he had also been charged with theft and drunk driving.
