Lonah Salpeter’s husband, Dan Salpeter, is a running coach. She has received a lot of guidance from her husband throughout her career.

Salpeter finished second in the New York City marathon on November 7, 2022. She recorded 2:23:30, only seven seconds behind the winner from Kenya. Meanwhile, on the men’s side,  Evans Chebet won the marathon, adding victory to his triumph at the Boston Marathon.

Lonah Salpeter Got Married In 2014

Lonah Salpeter met her husband, Dan Salpeter, in the year 2011. They fell in love and decided to tie the knot in 2014.

She and her Jewish partner, Salpeter, had to go to Nairobi in August 2014 to get married in front of her immediate family because they could not wed in Israel legally. They presented their marriage license to Israel’s Interior Ministry, but Lonah was still refused citizenship.

Dan Salpeter believed he could make her wife into a world-class athlete, though perhaps not one who would always finish at the top of the podium. Since the Israeli rules were very tough, it was difficult for Lonah to make progress, but they eventually found a way.

Two years after getting help from Dan, she was ready to start. Ultimately, Lonah ran her first marathon in 2016, clocking a time of 2:40:16 in Tel Aviv, over five minutes behind the cutoff for the Olympics in Rio. She also represented Israel in Rio, but a shoulder injury prevented her from attempting to finish the race.

According to his LinkedIn, Salpeter is based in Netanya, Center District, Israel. He is a certified running coach.

He now serves as the Middle and Long Distance coach. He helped his wife, Lonah, in different running variations, specifically long-distance marathons.

Dan Salpeter and Lonah Salpeter are raising a son named Roy, born in December 2014 after marriage.

Lonah resumed training and participating in races in Israel two months after giving birth, and the couple began planning to attend the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. Since no Israeli runners could qualify for the marathon, the Israeli Athletics Association was supporting the couple and had advised that making the Olympics would aid her cause.

Lonah’s training didn’t make sense until she had children. She didn’t reach the point where she would be competing against the top athletes in the world until after that.

The family previously lived in the central Israeli community of Moshav Yanuv, but they are now settled in Shoham.
