Is Matthew Pottinger Jewish? More On His Religion and Political Affiliation

Matthew Pottinger is a former American journalist and a retired US Marine. He is an ex-US deputy national security adviser who served in the office from September 22, 2019, until January 7, 2021.

Pottinger was a chief on the National Security Council since 2017. He also worked to design the Trump administration’s policies toward China.

Before working in the White House, he worked as a journalist for Reuters and The Wall Street Journal. After these, he switched his career to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps. Pottinger served in Iraq and Afghanistan until his retirement in 2010.

There are rumors that Matthew Pottinger is of Jewish ancestry, perhaps because he has shared his adoration for Jew cultures and states in the past. It could also be due to his physical attributes; maybe people think he appears Jewish and associates him with Jews. 

According to Jewish Insider, Pottinger was a member of the joint U.S.-Israel committee during Trump’s time, and the ex-US deputy national security adviser was a pro-Israel.

Also, the former US Marine served in the Iraq war and Afghanistan war between 2005 to 2010. 

Pottinger hasn’t yet shared many facts about his personal life or religious beliefs. Therefore, it is impossible to say whether the former US deputy national security adviser is Jewish.

What Is Matthew Pottinger’s Political Affiliation?

As per The Politico, Matthew Pottinger is a relatively typical conservative internationalist. He was never a Trump-style conservative. Thus, the ex-US deputy national security adviser presented both Democrats and Republicans.

Matthews is currently the Republican Party’s communications director for the House Select Committee on Climate Crisis. Thus, we can clearly say he is a Republican.

As a constituent, Pottinger joined the Donald Trump government’s National Security Council in 2017. Shortly after January 6, 2021 uprising, he resigned from his position at the National Security Council. Then, In February 2021, Pottinger informed “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan that she should go because “it was the point where I believed that it was appropriate for me to quit.” 

During the June hearing, the ex-US deputy national security adviser testified that he said he chose to resign after Trump tweeted that Pence should have had more boldness. 

In the previous hearing, Pottinger said: ‘One of my employees brought me a printout of a tweet by President Trump, and the tweet said something to the impact that Mike Pence, the VP, didn’t dare to do what he– what should have been done,’

He continued: ‘I read that tweet and decided at that moment to resign. That’s where I knew I was resigning that day once I read that tweet.’

The courts will again testify to him during the January 6 hearing on Thursday, July 21, 2022.

Matthew Pottinger Family Details 

Matthew Pottinger was born to John Stanley Pottinger and Gloria Anderson. His father is a novelist, lawyer, and ex- Department of Justice official. 

At present, John Stanley practices on Wall Street. He is the writer of the best-selling book, The Fourth Procedure.

Pottinger is married to his wife, Yen Pottinger. His wife is a virologist and works at ICAP at the University of Columbia as a senior technical adviser for laboratory surveillance. Previously, Yen worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as a microbiologist from 2007 to 2015 before that.

After resigning in 2021, Matthew and Yen announced they had moved to Utah. Their home consists of two beautiful children.  

Pottinger has become a distinguished fellow at the Hoover Institution and a member of its research team for “China’s Global Sharp Power Project.”
