Who Is Miriah Vanlith TikTok? Watch Inmate Calling For Pen Pals

Miriah Vanlith, 43, is a TikTok user who went viral after appearing in a video asking for people to write her at the South Idaho Correctional Institution near Boise.

Vanlith was found guilty in 2019 of raping two teenage boys, using the internet to entice children, and disseminating a controlled substance to a minor.

In 2018, she sexually assaulted a 14-year-old boy while in a relationship for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy and raping a 17-year-old boy the previous year.

Miriah Vanlith will not be eligible for parole until 2028, according to prison records.

Prisoners do not have standard internet access, but Vanlith was able to send a video message to someone on the outside via JPay, who then uploaded the clips to a TikTok account on her behalf and in her name.

Miriah Vanlith has created a TikTok video in which she invites people to contact her if they "want to talk" and become pen pals. Vanlith's account quickly grew to 33,000 followers after she posted eight videos.

Vanlith told the Statesman that she made the video to meet new people and that having a pen pal helps her pass the time in prison. 

Prisoners can use the JPay system to send emails and video files to people in the outside world, but they cannot directly access social media. That means someone else created a TikTok account for the inmate and uploaded the videos. Her profile has since been deactivated.

Vanlith is accused of sexually abusing other boys, including a 15-year-old, but another charge was dropped as part of a plea deal.

Vanlith refused to say how she obtained the TikTok videos, but a quick search on TikTok turns up hundreds of Boise inmates looking for pen pals, with some even using photos from their past to entice people.

According to court records, Vanlith pleaded guilty in 2019 to four felonies with the Adams County Prosecutor's Office: two counts of rape, enticing children over the internet, and distributing a controlled substance to persons under the age of 18.

The probable cause written by an Adams County sheriff's deputy, Vanlith raped a 14-year-old boy in April 2018. Vanlith had contacted the boy via Facebook and Snapchat.

According to several court documents submitted to the Adams County District Court, Vanlith had already been charged with several felonies, including the rape of a 17-year-old boy, and faced an accusation that she inappropriately touched a 15-year-old boy during the 2018 incident.
