The death news of the secretary-general of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo, has saddened internet users and fans are curious to know the cause of the death of the secretary-general.

Political figure Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo was born in Nigeria on April 20, 1959. He has served as OPEC's Secretary-General since August 1, 2016. 

He served as group managing director and CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation from 2009 to 2010. (NNPC). Prior to that, he worked at Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas as the deputy managing director.

Since 1991, Mr. Barkindo has served as the head of the technical team representing Nigeria at the UN climate change negotiations. At the UNFCCC, he presided as head of the Group of 77 and China.

OPEC Secretary-General: Muhammad Barkindo Death Cause & Obituary

The death cause of Muhammad Barkindo, the outgoing secretary-general of OPEC, has not been disclosed yet. His obituary has also not been released. His death was verified by Mallam Mele Kyari, group managing director of NNPC Ltd., in a tweet sent out on Wednesday morning.

"Our esteemed Dr. Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo passed away. On July 5, 2022, at about 11 p.m., he passed away. His personal family, the NNPC, Nigeria, OPEC, and the global energy world have all suffered a significant loss."

"The details of the funeral will be released soon.", Kyari stated.

Barkindo was greeted at the White House on Tuesday by President Muhammadu Buhari, who praised the departing OPEC secretary general's six-year stint and referred to him as a deserving ambassador of Nigeria.

Earlier in his career, he served as the special advisor to H.E. Dr. Rilwanu Lukman KBE, a former minister of petroleum resources and the secretary-general of OPEC.
