He passed away on December 28 in a Holiday Inn after taking a flight from Reddick, Florida, to Nashville to see friends. The actor was discovered wearing "a gray shirt and gray underwear" at the time of his death.

According to the autopsy report, he passed away after consuming a "toxic mixture of methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl." Drug paraphernalia was discovered "nearby" McGlashan's lifeless body when it was discovered in a hotel restroom.
