However, the Appeals Board found that he didn’t receive procedural fairness, nullifying the initial ban call.

The Tribunal’s “failure to give procedural fairness,” which amounted to a “law error,” was crucial to the Appeals Board’s conclusion. Additionally, the Appeals Board failed to understand how the Tribunal determined that Cripps’ acts were “in the bumping of an opponent.”

Greats of the AFL David King and Kane Cornes were both shocked by the decision to reverse the suspension; the former said on SEN that due to the uncertainty around head contact, the game has “never been more lost.”

Last Sunday’s collision between Cripps and Ah Chee resulted in the Brisbane midfielder’s concussion and was initially characterized as irresponsible behaviour, high impact, and high contact.

AFLW Melbourne captain Daisy Pearce raised the question of whether Cripps indeed bumped Ah Chee, which neither he nor his attorney were asked but the Tribunal utilized as a part of its conclusion.

“He understands why they’re attempting to change it, but He believes that by asking players not to commit to that ball, they’ll change how and what football looks like.” Maybe accepting that is something that they are all being asked to do.

“He still watches that game and thinks it was a football game with a bad result.” The final two games of the home-and-away season against Melbourne and Collingwood will feature Cripps in a free role.
