The driver of the northbound car was critically injured and transported by EMS to Elkhart General Hospital; he later passed away.
Following the retirement of then-Republican State Representative Richard Mangus in 2004, Walorski ran for a seat in the Indiana House of Representatives. The suburban region between South Bend and Elkhart was included in Indiana's 2nd District, for which she ran.
Walorski beat Democrat Carl H. Kaser by a margin of 64 to 36 percent. With 53% of the vote, she was elected to a second term in 2006. She won an uncontested third term in 2008.
