Sean Desai Wife Ojus Desai And His Indian Family Background

Sean Desai wife Ojus Desai is a graduate of New York University in early childhood education. Sean and Ojus married in 2011.

The couple came from a similar background and met at Temple University. The Seattle Seahawks coach was pursuing his higher education, and the writer was pursuing her English language degree.

That was seventeen years ago. Fast forward to today, the two are married for eleven and are parents to three kids, with the latest arrival to the Desai family being in 2020.

Sean has been a breath of fresh air in the coaching scene. The stereotypical comments that came from being an Indian-American didn’t affect his confidence, and today he is one of the most highly sought-after coaches in the NFL.

So highly sought that the Cleveland Browns have asked permission from his current employees to interview him for the defensive coordinator job. Browns have also looked at Jerod Mayo for the same role.

Though Ojus has a paid newsletter where she talks about modern motherhood, the mother-of-three is seen sharing her thoughts on her Instagram posts. The Instagram posts help drive traffic toward the newsletter, but she doesn’t keep the proceeds to herself.

Ojus donates the money to the non-profit organization, Everytown, which works for gun safety, and another organization named Moms Demand Action, which has a motto similar to that of Everytown

She began as an associate editor at The Everymom and rose through the ranks to become a senior content editor. Before leaving her job at The Everygirl, Ojus served as Director of Diversity and Inclusion.

Sean Desai Parents Immigrated From India

Sean Desai parents Suresh Desai and Shila Desai are first generation emigrants from Gujrat.

There are many stereotypes about Indian families and how they only want their children to pick up what they call “serious jobs”, such as becoming a doctor, lawyers or engineers. And our coach was one of those kids who grew up in the family with that mentality.

Sean’s parents raised him in Shelton, Connecticut, and growing up, he wasn’t unfamiliar with the racist remarks passerby would make toward his family. Go back to your country was a common slur he would hear, and he would be lying if he said it didn’t affect him.

Suresh Desai grew up in a background that was starkly different from his wife. He came from a village, and his better half grew up in the capital of Gujrat, Ahmedabad. The couple had two kids, Sean and his younger brother Semil.

Though Suresh and Shila were reluctant in the beginning, later on, they let their son pursue his dreams of becoming an NFL coach. Sean’s talent spoke for itself.

Highly sought-after personnel wherever he went, Sean has shown why representation matters. In a video shared by NFL in 2021, Sean shared a heartbreaking incident that took place in his life.

He revealed his four-year-old son asked him and Ojus to paint his skin ‘white’ so he could become a professional baseball player, as he never saw an Indian baseball player.

This made Sean realize the importance of representation, and today he is glad he is one of the examples for Indian-American kids to break through the stereotype. If Shila and Suresh had bound that stereotype to their son, we wouldn’t have such a talented coach among us.

Sean Desai Family

Sean Desai comes from a South Asian family with roots in India.

The Seattle Seahawks assistant head coach was born and raised 7000 miles away from the country where his parents emigrated from in the 60s. Suresh and Shila raised their two sons in Connecticut and also had their cousins with them.

The Seahawks coach had his older cousins Shyam and Nahir accompany him as they played football in the front yard of their home. Desai earned his undergraduate degree in philosophy and political science from Boston University and a master’s degree from Colombia University.

He joined Temple University in 2005 to pursue higher education and that is where he met his partner Ojus. The couple is now a parent to three kids. The couple’s first son Arian was born on May 24, 2013.

Arian has shown interest in becoming a baseball player as his dad said previously. In a picture posted by Ojus in 2015, two-year-old Arian could be seen sitting on his father’s lap as he read him a book by John Wooden. Not sure how much Arian understood it at that time but it probably gave him a good sleep.

In recent years, Arian has taken a liking to read Harry Potter books which his mother reads to him as he soundly falls asleep.

On November 4, 2015, the couple welcomed their second son, Shea Desai. For Halloween 2017, the two brothers dressed up as Batman and Joker, with two-year-old Shea taking the role of the notorious character.

The couple welcomed their third child and their first daughter, Zadie Desai. With her two older brothers, Zadie has already worn the colours of the Seattle Seahawks and was seen cheering them on during the first game day.

Recently, Ojus shared that her three peas were excited about the playoffs. Next year this time around they might be getting ready to cheer for Cleveland Browns if their dad accepts the job.
