Shohei Ohtani Mother Kayoko Otani Raised Three Siblings in Family

Shohei Ohtani mother Kayoko Otani played badminton at the national level in her high school. Kayoko has three children together with Toru.

Shohei was born on July 5, 1994, in Oshu city, located in Iwate Prefecture as the youngest member in the family.

The baseball star came from an athletic family, as his father played amateur baseball, and his mother was a Japanese badminton player. His brother Ryuta also plays baseball.

The Ohtani family follows Christianity by faith, but the country has a significant following of Shinto.

Shohei Ohtani mother Kayoko Otani was born on 1963 in the Yokohama city of Japan.

Kayoko, who is 60 years in 2022, made it to the national level playing badminton in the past and has the title of ‘national-level badminton player.’

When Shohei was a kid, the Japanese considered him a ‘yakyu shonen,’ which means a child who lives, eats, and breathes baseball. He was very humble that he let his parents handle his finances. His mother used to collect $1,000 monthly in his private bank account to develop his financial maturity.

Kayoko raised Shohei as her third and youngest child and an “a normal baby,” in her mother’s words. She used to take Shohei with her in practice.

She added, “I would let him play with the equipment, “Maybe it’s because badminton and baseball have similar motion, but he could swing the racquet like a champion without me having to show him,” as per Nippon.

Shohei Ohtani Father

Shohei’s father, Toru, played as an outfielder for a corporate-sponsored nonprofessional baseball team. 

Toru played as an amateur baseball player for the Japanese Industrial League.

His 60 years old father says” “It wasn’t particularly tough in his upbringing, “It was very ordinary, really just ordinary,” as per Mainichi.

The Los Angeles Angels rookie Shohei played the season-opening game against Oakland Athletics, where his parents came and supported him on March 29, 2018.

Shohei spent his childhood in Iwate Prefecture with his family. He used to give the training notebook to his father. His father used to take him swimming to develop his trademark flexibility, which helps pitch and catch.

Toru became a coach of the team “Ichinoseki Little Senior” baseball association after getting permission from the manager of the club. He coached his youngest child in the same association.

Shohei has two siblings, a brother Ryuta Otani and sister Yuka Otani.

Shohei Ohtani Brother

Ryuta Ohtani was born on the 20th of March 1988 in Oshu, Japan. 

Ryuta is 1.87 m tall, which is 6 cm less than his younger brother, who is 1.93 m. 

He is the second child in the family after his elder sister. He attended Hanamaki Higashi High School and started playing his interest in sports.

He played in the local baseball league in Japan. His father used to train him and his younger brother to play baseball in their childhood. 

Ryuta played in elementary school at the beginning and started playing professionally after then. He plays for a baseball team known as Morioka, a part of Toyota Motor East Japan Inc. 

Ryuta gets a ticket to the Tohoku area qualifiers in the second round in 2018. In the year, it was the team’s first time qualifying for the Baseball Tournament in Japan.

Shohei Ohtani Sister

Yuka played volleyball during her college days and professionally turned into a nurse.

Yuka worked for the Yotsuba Yurikagokai Social Welfare Council. She married Hiroyuki Ryuishi, the Hanamaki Higashi High School’s baseball club manager.

In 2016, Yuka was sent to the Philippines along with 22 other Japanese teachers to teach the current batch of candidate health workers. The program succeeded as Filipinos is more adaptable to multiple languages. 

She said, ” Filipinos are also “more cheerful in learning” and also very creative in presenting their unique skills.
