Steve Spurrier Grandson Gavin Spurrier Is A Quarterback From Bowling Green

The former football quarterback and coach Steve Spurrier has grandsons who are also into athletics. Gavin and Luke Spurrier play for Duke University.

Steve has two sons and daughters, Lisa, Amy, Steve, Jr., and Scott, and those four children have blessed him with 14 grandchildren, most of whom have pursued athletic careers.

Athletics runs through the Spurrier family’s veins. It started with Steve having played ten seasons in NFL before starting his coaching career, and his sons followed in his footsteps. Likewise, his grandsons have also inherited a love for sports.

Gavin and Luke were both born as two of the six children of Steve’s son Steve Jr and daughter-in-law Melissa Spurrier. Per Duke’s athletic website, they were born on the same day, the 10th of January 2001.

Furthermore, the siblings also have a sister named Emmaline Spurrier, a cheerleader at the University of Florida. Per Emmaline’s profile, she has shared that she is a triplet with two boys and has lived in seven states.

Steve Spurrier Has A Grandson Gavin Spurrier Who Plays Football

Steve Spurrier, who played ten seasons in NFL, has a grandson named Gavin Spurrier, who has walked in his footsteps and pursued an athletic career just like his grandfather.

Gavin is a Pro-Style Quarterback who plays for the Duke Football ’23 State Champion, having enrolled at Duke Blue Devils on the 1st of July 2019. However, he did not have game action from 2019 to 2021.

Even so, the quarterback received Micah Harris Trinity Teammate Award in 2020 for being a true teammate and showcasing character, unselfishness, compassion, and pride. Furthermore, he returned as a quarterback in 2022.

Steve’s grandson also had a successful high school career, playing soccer, football, and basketball. He attended three high schools and spent his last two years at South Warren under training under coach Brandon Smith.

The young Spurrier captained his team as a senior and got accoladed with many honorable mentions. He was named Kentucky Super Preps Male Athlete of the Year and Class 5A Most Valuable Player. Likewise, he also helped the soccer team to reach second place in the state championship in 2016.

Steve Spurrier Grandson Luke Spurrier Is Also An Athlete

Steve does not only have one grandchild but more than ten, and his other grandson Luke Spurrier, born in 2001, is also an athlete at Duke University.

However, Luke participated in cross-country, unlike Gavin, and didn’t play football. He enrolled at Duke in 2019 and won the 800m events at the Dick Taylor Carolina Challenge and Virginia Tech Invitational during his first year.

The racer also ran at the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge but missed outdoor competitions in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons due to Covid. Later in the 2021/22 season, he competed in his first collegiate cross country meet at the Elon Opener and ran 800m personal best at the Virginia Grand Prix Invite, earning him sixth place.

Spurrier also attended South Warren High School and was a Class AAA Region 2 cross-country champion during his senior year. Furthermore, the athlete became the state track champion in 2019 800m 3AAA Kentucky race. Likewise, he also wrestled and became a two-time SCISA State Champion in 2015 and 2016. 

Moreover, the former athlete’s grandson did not only excel in athletics but also was good in academics. The 21-year-old was a freshman class president and a valedictorian of the South Warren class of 2019.
