Tatjana Maria is a famous German professional tennis player who reached her first Grand Slam quarterfinals with her parent’s blessing and hard work in May 2022.

She defeated Latvian player Tatjana Maria in the knockout match of the summer’s Women’s Singles Championship. The encounter was one of the best for this reason as it went till the final moments of the game to decide a winner.

She has a Polish background as her father was a professional Polish handball player. She was born to father Heinrich Malek and Mother Margit Malek. In the past, Heinrich had represented Poland internationally in Handball. He is a native of Zabrze, Poland.

Tatjana’s mother, Margit, is not well known to the media as she is famous like her daughter and husband. Tatjana’s parents had been supportive of her since her early days. She credits her parents and her husband for the success she has achieved now in her career.

She married her coach Charles-Edouard Maria in 2013. After her marriage, she halted her career for a while and returned to the court in 2014 to compete in the 2014 Copa Colsanitas. 

Charles has also been a professional tennis player in the past. He used to represent his home country France in international games. He still coaches his wife and is seen supporting him from the side of the couch in every match. They are considered one of the best couples in the tennis community in recent times.

They have two cute girls together. The eldest daughter, Charlotte Maria, was born on December 20, 2013, whereas the youngest one, Cecilia Maria, was born on April 2, 2021. She has returned from her maternity leave and reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2022, which is her highest achievement in Wimbledon so far.

Tatjana Maria’s Career

Maria had a bumpy ride throughout her tennis career. She was somewhat inconsistent as she took breaks during that time of her life. She didn’t play for most of 2013 following her marriage and first pregnancy. 

In 2014, Maria made a comeback to perform at Copa Colsanitas. She has won two titles in her career altogether. Both the 2018 Mallorca Open and the 2022 Copa Colsanitas were where she won her two singles WTA Tour championships.

Maria has also competed in 12 matches for Germany in Fed Cup action during the years 2006 and 2011, as well as 2018 and 2020.
