American professional basketball player Brittney Yevette Griner plays for the Phoenix Mercury in the Women's National Basketball Association. She participated in collegiate basketball for the Baylor Lady Bears in Waco, Texas.

Brittney came out of the closet and first revealed her sexuality to the public in an interview on February 11, 2013. For a long time, she has endured harassment because of her sexual preference.

Brittney is married to Cherelle Watson, who later changed her name to Cherelle Griner. The couple married in June 2019, and Cherelle wholeheartedly supports Brittney. She has often been reported defending and protecting Griner as she still gets mocked for her sexual preferences.

Brittney Griner is currently undergoing a drug trial after being detained on March 6 in Russia. Today, a few hours earlier, the Moscow court gave the hearing as Griner was found guilty of drug offenses, and she has been sentenced to a nine-year prison time.

U.S President Joe Biden has released a statement that reads, "Today, American citizen Brittney Griner received a prison sentence that is one more reminder of what the world already knew: Russia wrongfully detaining Brittney. It's unacceptable, and I call on Russia to release her immediately so she can be with her wife, loved ones, friends, and teammates."
