Whitey Bulger was a former American crime boss from Massachusetts. He was infamous as the leader of the Winter Hill Gang, which operated in Somerville, Massachusetts. 

During his time as a mob boss, Whitey committed several heinous crimes, including murder, money laundering, racketeering, extortion, and more. 

Bulger was initially an FBI informant, during which time he built his crime empire under the protection of the federal institute. Whitey eventually fled the law moments before he was to be arrested and remained hidden for nearly 17 years. 

He was finally arrested on June 22, 2011, at the age of 81 years old.

Whitey Bulger Parents: Who Are Father James Joseph Bulger And Mother Jane Veronica Bulger?

Whitey Bulger was born to parents James Joseph Bulger and Jane Veronica Bulger in Dorchester, Massachusetts. 

His father, James, was a union laborer and also occasionally worked as a docker. Similarly, his mother, Veronica, was an Irish immigrant.

Other than Whitey, the two were also parents to five more children from their marriage. The couple and the children were left in extreme poverty after Bulger's father, Joseph, lost his arms in a work accident. Struggling financially, the family moved to the Mary Ellen McCormack Housing Project in 1938.


Where Are Whitey Bulger Parents Now? 

Unfortunately, Whitey Bulger's parents James Joseph Bulger and Jane Veronica Bulger, are both dead as of 2022.

His father, James, passed away at the age of 81 in 1964. Similarly, his mother Jane died in 1980 at the age of 74. 

On the other, Whitey's brothers, William Michael Bulger, 88, and John P Bulger, are still alive. Meanwhile, the former Boston-based criminal mastermind Whitey was killed in a prison cell in 2018, and he was 89 years old at the time of his death.

Whitey Bulger Ethnicity And Family Background

Whitey Bulger was of Caucasian/white ethnicity consisting of Irish background. 

His parents were both of Irish origin. Whitey's father, James Joseph Bulger, and mother, Jane, were both Irish descendants. Talking about his father's side, Whitey's great-grandparents, William Bulger and Mary Myer, first shifted to the U.S. On his mother's side, his grandparents, Charles Joseph McCarthy, and Jane Veronica O'Brien came to the U.S. as immigrants.

Whitey Bulger's Killers Charged

Most recently, Whitey Bulger's name is making headlines again after three men were charged with his 2018 murder. The organized crime boss, who died on October 30, 2018, was beaten to death in his prison cell. He was found dead less than 12 hours after his transfer from a Florida federal penitentiary to the U.S. Penitentiary Hazelton in West Virginia. 

Three men, including Sean McKinnon, Paul J DeCologero, and Fotios Geas, are currently facing charges in the 2018 brutal murder of the former crime boss. Among the three suspects, Fotios, aged 55, is a former mafia hitman who worked for Whitey's rival New England mafia.

Fotios, who was serving an eight-year sentence, was Whitey's cellmate at the time of his brutal murder. He is currently facing life in prison for murder.

One of the other accused, Sean McKinnon, aged 36, has pled not guilty to the charges and claims innocence in Whitey's murder.
