Who Is Sitting Behind Adam Kinzinger? Jan 6 Hearing and Prosecution

Rep. Adam Kinzinger, a 44-year-old Republican from Illinois, was most recently added to the committee by Pelosi after McCarthy removed his five appointees.

Like Cheney, Kinzinger has been an outspoken opponent of the GOP. After the uprising on January 6, he was one of the ten Republicans who voted to impeach Trump.

One of the two Republicans selected by Pelosi to serve on the nine-person panel will be Adam Kinzinger, who will join Liz Cheney of Wyoming. Following the attack on the Capitol, Cheney and Kinzinger were the only two Republicans to support the committee's formation, voting in favor of impeaching Trump.

Following Pelosi's choice to reject two of the five Republicans chosen for the panel by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., this past week, Kinzinger was appointed.

Republicans Jim Banks of Indiana and Jim Jordan of Ohio, who Pelosi banned from voting, are two of Trump's most ardent supporters in Congress and both opposed recognizing the results of the 2020 election.

Pelosi declared that she was denying their nominations out of respect for the impartiality of the inquiry. McCarthy responded by declaring that all of his choices will abstain from the panel's probe.

Adam Kinzinger Career Details

The son of Betty Jo Kinzinger, an elementary school teacher, and Rus Kinzinger, the CEO of religious institutions, Adam Kinzinger was born on February 27, 1978, in Kankakee, Illinois. He was reared mostly in Bloomington, Illinois, but he did spend some time there during his youth.

He graduated from Normal Community West High School in 1996 and Illinois State University with a bachelor's degree in political science in 2000.

Kinzinger stood for election as a McLean County county board member in 1998 while a student at Illinois State. At age 20, he was one of the youngest county board members in McLean County history after ousting an incumbent.

Soon after graduating from Illinois State as part of a program there, Kinzinger interned for former U.S. Senator Peter Fitzgerald.
