Rula Lenska returned to Coronation Street after she decided to leave the show in 2020. According to the reports, her return episode will be broadcasted this week on TV.

She is a British actress who primarily performs in British stage and television productions. In the United States, however, she is best known for a string of Alberto VO5 hairspray advertisements she starred in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Why Is Rula Lenska Leaving Coronation Street?

Rula is not leaving Coronation Street; instead, she will reprise her role of Claudia Colby, which she had abandoned in 2020. Since 2009, she has intermittently appeared on the ITV soap opera. She returned full-time in 2018, the year she started dating Ken Barlow in the show.

Initially, Claudia persuaded Ken to sell his home and relocate to a posh retirement community before purchasing Audrey’s salon. But eventually, Ken concluded that the high life wasn’t for him, so he split up with Claudia and returned to Weatherfield. The makers of the show have not yet disclosed the plot of her return because it will be broadcast globally by ITV next week.

Rula loved her lush red hair back in the days, but as years passed, she started to grow old, and eventually, the health of her hair also started to degrade. So, Rula Lenska wears a wig to make her hair look as it was when she was young. The British actress has already turned 74, and it is natural for her hair to go sideways at this age. 

Lenska has appeared in many television series throughout her career. Lenska debuted in the serial Resurrection of the Daleks after being selected as one of the top five actresses to play Doctor Who companion Jo Grant in the 1970s.

In the second season of Cluedo, she played Mrs. Peacock. As Claudia Colby, Lenska joined the show in 2009. To join the Calendar Girls tour in August 2011, Lenska departed the role in May 2011. However, she appeared in the Inside No. 9 comedy’s Christmas-themed episode in 2016. Before leaving the program once more in April 2020, she returned to Coronation Street in July 2018. She is again returning to her role in August 2022.

Rula Lenska Illness And Health Battles

The British actress has been battling the issue of hearing for the past couple of years. She has been open about her hearing loss issues in her non-acting conversations. However, the actress now depends on hearing aids in both ears to continue her work and participate in daily discussions.

She has no idea how her hearing was compromised in the first place. With no family history of the ailment and hearing loss striking the actress in her mid-50s, it was a shock to Lenska when she first noticed her initial symptoms.

Rula Lenska’s Biography

Lenska was born in the EVAC American Military Hospital in the English hamlet of Diddington, which had previously been a Polish refugee camp. Before the war, her family, who are Pomian coat of arms-carrying members of the Polish aristocracy, held a castle and estate in Kazimierza Wielka, Poland.

Before Germany’s conquest of Poland, Jozef Beck, the country’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, had her father, Major Count Ludwik Ubieski, as his secretary. Rula was one of three children of her parents. Her sister Anna worked as an actress in movies in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
